MAKING A STATEMENT

This client contacted us after recently being handed the keys to this stunning, brand new home in East Malvern. Her and her young family were knee deep in the frantic process of moving in and arranging everything from new furniture to art work, and of course something to style up the windows.

When you enter this home you are met with a wide, prolonged hallway which progressively feeds down to the main kitchen, dining and living area. All of which function seamlessly together being open-plan, but also each having it's own feel and purpose. Our challenge was to encapsulate this within each space, but also to maintain consistency to combine it together as one big family friendly living zone.

We were lucky enough here to have beautiful high ceilings to work with that were also square-set, which led us towards sheer curtains being directly fixed to the ceiling. Sheer curtains are a powerful, yet subtle way of creating a theme throughout an entire house, or even just selected spaces within a house, as we've done here. We even introduced the same sheer curtain fabric to the master bedroom as it works as an off-shoot from the hallway in a similar, yet more private, way to the living zone- again providing a luxurious, ongoing theme throughout the whole lower level.

For blockout requirements we went with roller blinds in slightly textured fabric similar to the colour of the sheers. Many of the blockout blinds close down behind the sheer curtains so it was essential that the colours complemented each other. As an alternative to this and to continue to add to the luxurious feel of the master bedroom, we incorporated a lining curtain which runs behind the sheer curtain and functions independently.

The result was quite breathtaking, distinctly in the kitchen, dining and living zone where the sheer curtains offered a warmth and softness across one entire side of this section of the house. It allowed the northern light to gently filter through during the day, and transformed to create a warm, cosy mood in the evening.
